![]() ![]() Not to mention the clicking sound that plays as text rolls out during conversations is really satisfying. Everything from the music, to the sound design, graphics, and animations is so simple in its design but so beautifully done. Part of the charm of both My Time at Portia and now My Time at Sandrock is how Pathea has managed to commit to both simplicity and quality. Nothing prepared me for the absolute nightmare fuel that is the bumble ants: their name might sound adorable but their design is anything but. There is some confusion around the rocket rooster that bombards you with fireworks it doesn’t seem to be mixed with any other creature and is the only normal animal that carries a weapon so far. Interestingly, the creatures that populate the desert are essentially remixes of the usual desert animals that you might expect like a yak, except it’s mixed with a camel to create the adorable yakmel. It’s almost a crime to use the yakmel carts to travel across town but I suppose once you’ve run past the same spot a thousand times it is understandable. The attention to detail is noticeable and makes exploring an absolute treat, and the chests that you find scattered around certainly don’t hurt. So much time and effort has gone into environmental design, from the towns to the mines and the ruins. Many of the residents are written almost as caricatures and would be right at home in a Western. The atmosphere of Sandrock is unmistakably inspired by old Western films the opening cinematic featuring a dramatic shot of a lone cowboy (that we later learn is the outlaw, Logan) standing atop a rock formation. ![]() ![]() Sandstorms aren’t frequent, but having to use the feather duster to clean off your equipment was certainly an interesting mechanic. The tranquil oasis in town with its little chirping crickets is guarded fiercely as it's the town’s only local water supply. Water is scarce, but also necessary to run your machinery. ![]() Taking over the dilapidated workshop from the previous builder (whose name is Mason, ironically) is no easy task. At least the usually strict Church of Light has made allowances for more advanced machinery, so even though resources are scarce you can always reuse, reduce, and recycle. Set in the desert of Sandrock - as opposed to the green hills of Portia - you have to work in a harsh environment that sits at odds with the super friendly townsfolk. What was originally intended to be a DLC for My Time at Portia has taken on a life of its own and blossomed into My Time at Sandrock. Make it a toggle and be done with it.// Previews // 22nd May 2022 - 1 year ago // By FluffyAxe My Time at Sandrock Preview If you're adamant that it stays in for some reason, it absolutely needs to be optional. Take a look at this feature one more time, devs. I don't really want my character looking more and more like a meth-head every day. The eye bags need to be optional.Īlso, after playing a bit longer, the eye bags make the characters look like drug addicts, especially at some angles and in certain lighting. It would be different if Sandrock were to be some hyper-realistic, real world type game, but neither Portia, nor Sandrock as you are billing it, are meant to be that type of game. I don't want it in the games I use to relax and de-stress. My life and my job are stressful enough-I have bags and stress and all the visible signs of overworked/underpaid working-poor every single day of my life. I get some people really, really want a lot of realism in this type of game, but there are many of us who use this as an escape. That's more a penalty on the player, having to look at it, than a penalty on the character, like stamina drain is. Just pass out on the second night in a row at whatever hour being up.īut if nothing else, no eye bags. IRL most people don't pass out from pulling a single all nighter but certainly do have less energy from it. A choice might be an option though, you can pass out now and wake up at home with however much stamina, or choose to stay up and accept the penalties of lost stamina and faster draining stamina. I know some use pass out as an emergency way to get home when stuck rather than loose the whole day's progress, though that doesn't seem to be intended game design. There could easily be other penalties like no stamina regen if you don't sleep/sleep to late, maybe makes your stamina drain faster the next day as well. When I'm out running around late, I'll sometimes see NPCs, so kinda sucks I as a player have to pass out when they get to stay up. I don't really like the passing out mechanic either but am used to it in games so accept it. I don't want to look at that on my character. ![]()
